Define Exercise Science

Here is an interesting question and answer session I had recently...

Hello Ms Lynda!

Mr X is a professor in exercise science at University in California.

--- I have to translate the phrase "exercise science" into my 1st language and I'm not sure what it means. Is it possible that "exercise science" means either "scientific bases of exercises/exercising" or a "movement recreation"?

So maybe Mr X was a professor of scientific bases of exercises or of a movement recreation?

What do you think?

Thanks

Luke

Hi Luke

Exercise science is the study of the anatomy, biomechanics, and chemical changes in the body as it is affected by exercise. It is basically the study of human movement.

Here is a good Exercise Science definition page.

If you have any more questions or need more explanation just let me know!

Best,

Lynda

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

So, neither of my definitions is correct, i.e.,"scientific bases of exercises" or "a movement recreation"? Can't I translate it this way?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Luke

If your definition is wrong than no, you cannot translate it that way. Think more about the scientific exploration or study of human movement.

Best,

Lynda
